U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said in the last few days that the U.S. has not given “mixed messages” about its dealings with Huawei.
But President Donald Trump has veered from saying Huawei could form part of a U.S.-China trade deal, to saying he doesn’t want to do business with the Chinese technology giant.
Pompeo has also said Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, who is facing extradition to the U.S., is not a bargaining chip. But Trump has previously said he could intervene in her case if it helped secure a trade deal.
